First Aid Kit
The following is what I take for a first aid kit when out in the backcountry. While I have a wilderness first aid certificate from SOLO in New Hampshire, I am by no means a doctor, EMT or otherwise expert in medicine. Having a good first aide kit is no substitute for good instruction and I urge you to take a first aid course as I have.- Bandages
- 2 Small
- 2 Medium
- 2 large gauze pads
- Gauze Wrap
- Moleskin
- Ointments/Creams
- Bacitracin
- Burn Cream
- Antibiotic ointment
- Sunscreen
- Lip balm
- Medications
- Ibuprophen
- Acetaminophen
- Benedryl
- Electrolites
- Antacids
- Other
- Latex gloves
- Tongue Depressor
- Elastic Wrap or Athletic tape
- SAM Splint
- Alchohol Pads
- Survival Gear

- Iodine Water Treatment
- Emergency Blanket
- Small Pocket Knife with tweezers
- Needle and thread
- Pocket knife with wrench*
- Fire starter*
Consider doubling or tripling the number of bandages if you are going to be out for more than 3 days. Also, it is a good idea to make leave the first aid kit in a very accessible place with in a well marked pouch. I like to keep mine in a red zipper pouch with a large white cross for easy identification.
